We encourage diverse perspectives
Download 2022 DE&I Report

Diversity is what we do best.

We believe our differences make us stronger. We’re proud to celebrate diversity — from events for Black History Month and Pride Month to International Women’s Day and Chinese New Year. Diversity, equity, and inclusion is an organization-wide priority that we work to promote internally and in the communities we touch. Follow along as we expand our DE&I effort across our 5 pillars: scholarship, recruitment, leadership development, procurement, and community engagement.

“I could not be more honored and humbled to chair the PENN Diversity Council. The council is a testament to the company’s commitment to create a culture where every team member, regardless of their differences, can truly be themselves and belong.”

Justin Carter, Senior Vice President of Regional Operations and Chair of the PENN Diversity Council

Diversity Committee

Progress through inclusion

We believe a diverse, welcoming workforce is unstoppable. We formed the PENN Diversity Council in 2020, during some of the most challenging times in our nation’s history. Our goal through this council is to create a more diverse, equitable and inclusive company.

Diversity Scholarship Fund

We support our team members by creating opportunities from within. We are proud to commit $1 million annually to help fund scholarships for the children of our team members, many of whom are the first in their families to pursue post-secondary education.

Support for Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs)

In 2021, we committed to increasing diversity in our recruitment efforts, with a focus on attracting future leaders from a more diverse pool of candidates. Of the PENN Diversity Scholarship recipients, 10% will be attending HBCUs — and 31% of our Leadership Excellence at PENN (LEAP) interns currently attend an HBCU. In addition, we’ve committed more than $4M to create a STEM scholarship program in partnership with HBCUs in states where we operate.

TRAINING

DEIB training and leadership development

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) are important to us. In order to create a culture where everyone feels welcome, we have designed a three e-course training program for all team members. Leaders also go through in-person training at each location.

We’re also focused on diverse and female leadership development. Through our PENN Women program, we encourage women to pursue roles in leadership at our casinos and in the corporate offices. The results have been inspiring. Today, our executive team is 37.5% female — and growing.

Supplier Diversity Initiative

The Supplier Diversity Initiative is a coordinated effort at the corporate level, and across all of our destinations, to develop strong partnerships with diverse suppliers. PENN maintains relationships with organizations such as the National Minority Supplier Diversity Council (NMSDC), Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, U.S. Black Chambers, Inc, U.S. Pan Asian American Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation, U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, National LGBT Chamber of Commerce, and National Veteran-Owned Business Association (“NaVOBA”).

Since implementing our Diversity Procurement Program in 2020, we’ve increased our diverse spend by 70%.  In addition, we’re continuing to enhance our efforts through the PENN Small Business Incubator — a program that onboards minority businesses and assists them in growing from local to national suppliers within our company.

  • Leadership Excellence at PENN

The ongoing collaboration with HBCUs facilitates career opportunities at PENN and increases diverse participation in the Leadership Excellence at PENN Entertainment (LEAP) Program. LEAP provides hands-on training, mentoring, and real-world experience to new/recent college graduates.
